James A. Deutsch, M.D.
Since 1989, Dr. James A. Deutsch has been providing all of his patients with exceptional ophthalmology. A nationally recognized ophthalmologist who specializes in pediatric ophthalmology, Dr. Deutsch is also a state-of-the-art adult ophthalmologist in his private practice. He serves as Director of Pediatric Ophthalmology at the SUNY Downstate School of Medicine and Kings County Hospital. While he teaches medical students and residents as a professor, he also has excellent interpersonal skills which allow him to interact with children of all ages!
Highly educated with years of specialized training, Dr. Deutsch earned a Bachelor of Arts from Harvard University before he obtained his medical degree from New York Medical College. He then completed an ophthalmology residency at Mt. Sinai School of Medicine as well as a pediatric ophthalmology fellowship at Wills Eye Hospital. Dr. Deutsch became board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology in 1989.
Dr. Deutsch feels it is important to stay on the cutting-edge of ophthalmology in order to offer the most advanced treatments. Thus, he maintains memberships in many prestigious professional organizations to keep up-to-date on the latest techniques and technology. He is currently a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus (AAPOS), Greater New York Society for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus, New York State Ophthalmologic Society and the Brooklyn Ophthalmologic Society.
Renowned in the community, Dr. Deutsch has been listed in the Castle Connolly Top Doctor guide for over 10 years. He has placed on the Best Doctors list created by New York Magazine and the Super Doctors list in The New York Times Magazine. Dr. Deutsch has also been honored as Teacher/Clinician of the Year by the residency program that he instructs.
In his spare time, Dr. Deutsch enjoys playing tennis and collecting African art.
